Patio and retaining wall

The previous house on the plot had a wall at the rear with steps down to the lawn. The new build was essentially on the same footprint but with a slightly increased patio area to the rear, requiring a new retaining wall about a meter further from the house. This was constructed from concrete blocks faced with blue engineering bricks. The ground behind the wall was then back filled and compacted to create a patio area with planters along the top of the wall. Indian sandstone with a flamed finish and sawn edges was laid on a well compacted base from the front door, around one side of the house and along the rear with the remaining side being a gravel path and also with a narrow gravel drainage area between the house and the paving.
